SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER, LA – Over 3,000 people will kick off the Fourth of July holiday with the 28th annual Sportspectrum Firecracker 5K sponsored by Ark-La-Tex Cardiology in Shreveport, Louisiana. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4th with the kids’ half-mile fun run. At 8 a.m., the 5K and Healthwalk will begin. All the fun begins in the parking lot behind Sears at Mall St. Vincent, located at 1133 St. Vincent Avenue in Shreveport. The run will make its way through the historic and beautiful Highland neighborhood. A portion of the proceeds of this year’s event will benefit the American Cancer Society.
“This is a great, healthy way to start the Fourth of July holiday,” states Matt Brown, race management. “Over the years, the Sportspectrum Firecracker 5K has become a great tradition and a fun family event for the community.”
The first 101 males and 60 females to finish the race will receive a commemorative glass race mug. Every pre-registered participant will receive a 2012 Firecracker 5K shirt. Woody Nesbitt will provide patriotic music before and during the race. Local rock band The Bluebirds will perform at the huge post-race party starting at 9:30 a.m., complete with traditional Independence Day treats: hot dogs, watermelon, ice cream, Ozarka water and Michelob Ultra Beer.
Entries will be accepted up to race day. Entry fees are $20 through July 3 and $25 on race day. Entries are accepted at Sportspectrum, 6970 Fern Avenue or online at www.sportspectrumusa.com.
