Scheduled guest presenters Robin Williams of Holiday Lanes in Bossier City and Karen Wissing of Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center will discuss social media strategies that have worked for their businesses, including Twitter and Blogger.
“Social Media 101” is the second in an ongoing series of educational programs to be offered to area attractions and businesses by the tourist bureau. On Monday, Oct. 24, a program entitled “Media Buying on a Shoestring Budget” was held at the University of Phoenix at the Louisiana Boardwalk. The seminar attracted approximately 45 representatives of area businesses and tourist attractions, ranging from non-profit arts organizations to artists and event promoters. New York-based media buying consultant Peggy Yervanian served as a keynote speaker and participated in one-on-one planning meetings with those in attendance, at no cost to program participants. This series of educational programs will continue on a quarterly basis in 2012. Planned topics will include grant writing (presented in collaboration with the Shreveport Regional Arts Council), advanced social media tactics, and more. The goal of these programs is to strengthen attractions and tourism-related businesses in the Shreveport-Bossier area and to help them be more successful in attracting and retaining patrons.
