Thursday, 25 August, 2011 12:47 by Chris Jay

Exhibits by artist Bethany Krull and biologist Dr. Ed Leuck include gallery talks, convocations, and more.

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER, LA –
Meadows Museum of Art, located on the campus of Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, opened the 2011-2012 exhibit season on August 21. The museum’s first exhibits of the year are “Bethany Krull: Selected Ceramic Works from the Series ‘Dominance and Affection’, ‘Signal’ and ‘In Servitude’” (August 21-November 6) and “Species in Crisis: Endangered Flora” (August 21-December 31). Each exhibit presents a unique perspective on the ways in which humans relate to and interact with the natural world. Exhibition organizers have planned a variety of learning opportunities, such as convocations and public gallery talks, to complement the exhibits.

Bethany Krull is an emerging artist who currently serves as ceramics instructor at Goggleworks in Reading, Pa., where she produces and teaches. Works on view in the Meadows Museum of Art exhibition are created in both porcelain and cast bronze with other materials used for staging. The three series of ceramic works included in this exhibition all deal with the complex relationship between humans and nature. As part of public programming for these exhibitions, Bethany Krull will visit Shreveport to participate in a Centenary College convocation and a public gallery talk.

“Species in Crisis: Endangered Flora”  is an exhibit of 18 endangered floral specimens collected over a 30-year period by Warters Chair of Biology Dr. Ed Leuck and Centenary College students.
