FARMER'S MARKET OPENS SATURDAY, JUNE 13
WITH MORE THAN 80 VENDORS
SHREVEPORT, La. – The second largest farmer’s market in Louisiana will open its summer season on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. The farmers’ market will take place every Saturday until Sept. 5, from 7:00 a.m. to noon. The Tuesday afternoon markets will take place from June 16 until July 28 from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
Saturday markets will host up to 85 vendors selling a variety of products, produce, meats and hand-crafted edibles. This year’s offerings will include:
fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables
fresh Gulf shrimp
Longhorn beef
Chickens
Eggs
artisan sausage
freshly-roasted coffee
canned fruits and vegetables
jams and jellies
salsas
granola
baked goods
soups
dips
herbs and herbal products
live plants
various crafts
Enjoy browsing through the wide assortment of goods under shady pavilions. The entire family can visit with local growers and learn about the best and freshest food items in the area.
Parking for the farmers’ market is available at Festival Plaza behind the Old Illinois Train Depot, in designated spots along Crockett and Commerce streets and in the parking lot directly behind Riverview Hall.
The lively events also include entertainment! The Blanchard Jammers will perform on opening day. Musical performances for the Tuesday markets include GRAMMY Award Nominee Buddy Flett, Lip Service, The Recliners, Dr. Cookie and Louisiana Dan, and Howlin’ Henry.
Sponsors for the Shreveport Farmers’ Market include the City of Shreveport, Eldorado Resort Casino Shreveport, the Downtown Development Authority, Downtown Shreveport Unlimited, and the Red River Revel.
