The organization’s primary goals are to promote higher education, to enhance cultural awareness and to increase community involvement. To achieve those goals, among other initiatives, the organization sponsors an academic scholarship program for individuals of Hispanic decent throughout Louisiana.
Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Inc. offers the scholarship by donating a significant portion of festival profits to Latinos Unidos del Norte Lousiana, L.U.L.A.C. Council #16001. We are pleased to announce that for 2008, a total of six Educational Scholarships totaling $5,600 were awarded and over $51,000 have been awarded year to date. Education and economic opportunities are the keys to becoming a contributing member of our society, and CINCO DE MAYO INC. and LATINOS UNIDOS DEL NORTE/LULAC are attempting to assist Hispanics in achieving these goals.
The organization also hosts a variety of fundraising events throughout Northwest Louisiana, in addition to civic and speaking engagements and local public school activities.
