A view from the Texas Street Bridge walking towards downtown Shreveport
Many Shreveport-Bossier residents and visitors are out and about in downtown Shreveport and the Louisiana Boardwalk this time of year. There is nothing like a little retail therapy, followed by dinner at one of the fabulous restaurants located on either side of the riverfront, and topped off by a late night stroll among the brilliantly lighted roses that glisten against the Red River.
Last weekend I discovered what you might call a secret passage way from the Louisiana Boardwalk to downtown Shreveport, and I was so pleasantly surprised I might just have to visit this hidden walking bridge again soon. I must admit, I have never considered walking rather than driving across the bridge
After spending some time shopping at the Boardwalk, my companion and I made our way to the base of the Texas Street Bridge to begin our trek across the Red River for dinner in downtown Shreveport. Of course comfortable shoes are a must for this adventure, but what I noticed more than anything else was the magnificent view and the excitement of a new experience in the city I’ve grown up in. After dining and enjoying a stroll beside the roses in Riverview Park, we made our way back up the steps on the Shreveport side of the bridge. By this time, downtown Shreveport and the Louisiana Boardwalk were sparkling in the night sky, and the Texas Street Bridge, also known as the Neon Bridge, was glowing with iridescent lights guiding us back across to complete our journey.
It’s important to consider walking time as well as the weather before you go, but it is so worth the incredible feeling to get out and do something different! Park your car in downtown Shreveport or at the Louisiana Boardwalk, bring your friends, take some pictures and take a walk over the Texas Street Bridge! This great walking path doesn’t have to be a secret.
