Geauxsicles: Not your mom's popsicle

Geauxsicles popsicle pro Walter Johnson displays the Parisian Pink and the Cookie Mac-Ster.

Warm weather has arrived in Shreveport-Bossier, and with that development we will be loosening our belt a notch or two and preparing to eat as many Geauxsicles Gourmet Ice Pops (3970 Youree Drive in Shreveport) as possible. Owner Erin Johnson has created some of the most original and delicious frozen treats we've ever tasted, ranging from the kid-friendly flavors that you may have had something like before (PB&J, Cookie Mac-Ster, Julius Freezer) to the downright outlandish, foodie-friendly experiments that almost certainly are not available in your grocer's freezer (Mango Saffron, Lemondrop, Crantastic). The pops go for about $3.25 each, and many flavors are available in a "Geaux Low" sugar-free version made with Truvia. I settled on the Cookie Mac-Ster, a rich, delicious cookies n' cream ice pop made with Oreo cookies. It was, easily, the best cookies n' cream anything I've ever eaten.

Geauxsicles opens later in the day than your average business, for understandable reasons (although I'd definitely eat a Julius Freezer for breakfast), opening Monday-Thursday at 12 p.m., Friday-Saturday at 11 a.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. If you're interested in keeping up with the limited-edition "feature flavors," follow Geauxsicles on facebook or Twitter, where they post updates about where they'll be selling pops (they have a mobile sales team) and what pops are in the works. Word has it, they'll even deliver orders of four or more. If you've never had a Geauxsicle, we highly recommend that you swing through and try one. With Tim's Southern Snow, Happy Bellys, and Counter Culture already delivering the frozen goodness on Youree Drive, the addition of Geauxsicles makes the place some sort of mystical taste bud-pleasing Bermuda Triangle of delicious treats.

Great story.  I can't wait until I have to be in Shreveport again for my next meeting.  Looks like it is on the route from Natchitoches!!!
