As many Mardi Gras participants know having a good time at the parades can depend on how well you prepare for the party. Parade-goers will be lining up early to reserve their place for the best free party on earth. So here is what you need to know before you go!
First, the Centaur and Gemini Parade routes start at Lake Street in downtown Shreveport and end at the intersection of East Kings Highway and Preston Street. It would be a shame to miss out on some serious bead tossing, so click here to view a map of the no throw zones, nonalcoholic family area and reserved parking area.
The Krewe of Highland Parade is set to roll 2 p.m., Sunday, March 6 starting at the intersection of Kings Highway and Creswell Avenue. This parade is a family friendly, eccentric and original parade that progresses through the streets of the historic Highland neighborhood. The Bar-B-Que Krewe has tossed hot dogs, there is a great second line through the streets, and of course an incredible time had by all in attendance. Click here to see a video about the second line tradition.
Even our animals get in on the Mardi Gras Fun. Check out a blog about the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux from yesterday.
And finally, The Krewe of Aesclepius will serve as the closer of the Mardi Gras events in Shreveport-Bossier. Starting with a children’s parade at Pierre Bossier Mall in Bossier City, floats will roll at 6:30 p.m., Fat Tuesday, March 8, and end with a bridge closing ceremony atop the Texas Street Bridge at 11:30 p.m. Krewe members will toast the official end of the Mardi Gras festivities.
With any parade it is strongly encouraged to follow safety precautions. Officers and paramedics will be available along the parade routes for assistance and in case of an emergency. Whatever your plans are this Mardi Gras, we invite you to spread the Carnival Spirit with us.
