Strawn's Strawberry Pie. Enough said.
UPDATE: Due to road conditions in Dallas, the Discovery Channel crew has postponed filming at Strawn's and will now be filming on Thursday, February 3, according to Strawn's co-proprietor Wesley Gauthier.
The strawberry ice box pie from Strawn's Eat Shop (125 King's Hwy. and 1643 E. 70th Street in Shreveport, 2335 Airline Dr. in Bossier City) is no stranger to the spotlight. Over the last 18 years, this obscenely delicious local legend has been profiled no fewer than six times in Southern Living, has been featured on the Travel Channel's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," and has been elected Sheriff of Caddo Parish. Okay, so I made up the last part. But, if we could just get it on the ballot - I think it would have a good shot at public office.
Now The Discovery Channel has announced that a new reality show will be coming to town filming a segment about Strawn's Eat Shop (specifically the pie) on Wednesday, February 2, 6 a.m. until shooting wraps. I visited with Strawn's proprietors Buddy and Wesley Gauthier today, and they encouraged Strawn's fans to please consider coming out to the restaurant at some point tomorrow. They'd like to have a nice, full house to show the world how popular Strawn's is when this program hits the airwaves (do they still use airwaves? Maybe cable wires?) this Summer. As if you needed another reason to eat some Strawn's fried chicken!
Details are sparse about this as-yet-unnamed reality television show, but we do know that it focuses on diners in the southern United States, and features a truck-driving host who will not only eat the most popular diner food in America, but will also help prepare it - from scratch.
