Are You Ready for Some Football?

Monday, 27 December, 2010 8:13 by Chris Jay

The 2010 Advocare V100 Independence Bowl kicks-off at 4 p.m. today, featuring the Air Force Falcons taking on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.  This is the first-ever Independence Bowl appearance for Georgia Tech, but the Air Force Falcons are I-Bowl vets, having won the Independence Bowl in 1983 and 1984.  Today's game marks an important anniversary for the Bowl itself, as the Independence Bowl turns 35, and the match-up of teams looks to be a great one, as both teams have powerful rushing games (Georgia Tech is ranked #1 in the nation).  Click here to read today's Times story from Roy Lang III about this head-on clash of powerful ground games.

As I'm writing this, on-line ticket sales have stopped, but great tickets are still available for purchase at the stadium.  Will-call and game day tickets are available at the Independence Stadium Box Office nearest Gate #4 on the northeast side of the stadium, beginning at 9:00 AM.  Today's game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

If you're looking for something fun to do after the game, The Robinson Film Center (617 Texas Street in Downtown Shreveport) is showing the Saints-Falcons game on three big screens and serving up food and drink specials.  Fatty Arbuckle's (450 Clyde Fant Parkway in the Red River District) presents an I-Bowl After-Party featuring live music by Daniel Smalley beginning at 10 p.m.

Today's game should be a great one.  Happy 35th anniversary, I-Bowl, and we'll see you at the game!
