Shreveport/Bossier CROP Hunger Walk to be held on November 1
Looking to make a difference in these trying times, the Shreveport/Bossier CROP Hunger Walk has set a goal of 200 walkers and hopes to raise $10,000 to help stop hunger and poverty here in our community and around the world. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised by CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) will go to the Northwest Louisiana Foodbank.
Shreveport and Bossier City are joining 2,000 other cities and towns nationwide in CROP Hunger Walks around the theme "Enough for all." The first two hundred walkers at the Shreveport/Bossier Hunger Walk will receive CROP t-shirts to show their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world who have to walk to live -- as well as with the millions served by local food pantries, food banks, and meal sites here in the U.S.
The walk, which is being held at First Baptist Church of Shreveport at 543 Ockley Dr., is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 1 with registration beginning at 2:30 PM. The walk route is 5k and will wind through the neighborhood of South Highland. A shorter walk route is also planned for those who cannot complete the 5k circuit. There is no fee to walk, but all who are interested in walking have the opportunity to collect donations to help stop hunger.
CROP Hunger Walks help fund the domestic and international relief efforts of the Church World Service, an international relief and hunger organization. Recently, CWS has focused its relief efforts in East Africa, a place where harsh economic conditions has left many hungry. The effort’s four main areas of focus are food production, food accessibility, food utilization and asset creation. CWS also continues to play a role in the continuing saga of U.S. Gulf Coast rebuilding, as families still struggle to rebuild their lives post-Katrina.
