By now most of you know that a huge event – referred to by many as the Super Bowl of bass fishing – is coming to Shreveport-Bossier in February.
Yes – the 2009 Bassmaster Classic will commence on the Red River, Feb. 20-22. We’re definitely excited!
The event is expected to bring about 70,000 visitors to our area and pump about $24 million into the Shreveport-Bossier economy over the course of the three-day tournament.
The Bassmaster Classic is the ultimate competition in professional bass fishing. Of course there will be plenty of fishing on the river, with Red River South Marina amd Resort serving as the official launch site, but there also will be weigh-ins at the CenturyTel Center and the ESPN Consumer Outdoor Show (featuring 150 vendors) at the Shreveport Convention Center.
It will definitely be historic for Shreveport-Bossier, but also worldwide, as Kim Bain will be the Classic’s first female angler in its 39-year history. Bain, of Alabaster, Ala., snagged the Classic berth as the 2008 WBT Championship. She also was named the Toyota Tundra WBT Angler of the Year.
We’re looking forward to her taking to the Red.
How about you? Share with us what you’re looking forward to and if you’re an angler, be sure to email a photo of you and your catch and we’ll post it to the blog.
