Dallas Resident Wins Contest and $100 Prize

Donna Hill, of Dallas, is the winner of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau’s Share Your Experience Contest, which awarded her a $100 American Express gift card.

The contest, which began in September, asked readers of the tourist bureau’s Inside the Other Side blog to post a blog entry sharing their experiences from a visit to the twin cities. One lucky winner was then chosen randomly to when the contest ended on Nov. 7.

Hill shared a story about a trip she made with friends and family to Harrah’s Louisiana Downs in Bossier City.

“I am so excited,” Hill said. “If I take a road trip, I love to go east to Louisiana. It is the most beautiful drive from Dallas to Shreveport-Bossier City. The people in Louisiana are the friendliest.”

Donna's experience:
"Long before Texas had legalized horse racing we would plan getaways from Dallas to Bossier City. One time my Aunt Jane, our friends Everett and Josie and I decided to make the day trip. Everett was driving and "the ladies" were gabbing and scoping out our picks. After a few hours we saw the sign WELCOME TO ARKANSAS and we realized we took the wrong turn. Everett put pedal to the metal and we headed in the correct direction. When we pulled into Louisiana Downs with just minutes to spare (before the first race) Everett jumped out ready to sprint, accidentally locking the keys in the car with the engine running. Luckily parking lot crew members came to our rescue and we made it in time to bet and win the daily double. We have often laughed at our most memorable trip across the state line to Louisiana.
